What are the requirements of the Church for being a Confirmation sponsor?
A sponsor must be someone other than the parent of the one to be confirmed.
A sponsor must have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist.
A sponsor must be at least 16 years of age and may be male or female regardless of the sex of the candidate.
A sponsor must be leading a life in harmony with the faith and the role to be undertaken; therefore, if married, must be married in the Church and if single, must be striving to live a chaste life and therefore cannot be living with a person outside of marriage.
A sponsor must be a practicing Catholic, registered in a parish, who regularly attends Mass on Sundays and Holy Days and receives the Holy Eucharist.
**For Confirmation, only one sponsor is listed on the certificate & in the parish records.
Click on the form below to download, print or complete the information for your Sponsor/Mentor. When choosing a sponsor you will need to consider the information above:

Some of the responsibilities of a sponsor to the confirmed after confirmation:
Maintain regular contact with the confirmed by phone, email. Also, sending a card on the anniversary of his/her confirmation.
Pray regularly for the confirmed and when possible pray with him/her.
Help the confirmed to learn how to experience a deeper prayer life (e.g. Eucharistic adoration).
Encourage participation in the life of the Church, especially through his/her parish.
Continue ongoing catechesis (e.g., sharing good books) and be available for questions.
Help the confirmed to understand how to bear witness to Christ in the world and to fulfill his/her baptismal promises faithfully through the Holy Spirit.
Mentor & Student Assignments
The following assignments should be completed WITH your sponsor/mentor for Confirmation. We recommend completing each one separately as they are due to give yourself and your mentor time to discuss. After meeting with your mentor, the student should:
1) Write a summary about what you and your mentor discussed regarding the assignment
2) Turn in the summary and the assignment sheet on or before the due date. Thank you!
